![]() HELP: Echo String trimmer head not spinning. It's the best whacker head available today. Echo weed eater and its various features to better understand its problems. I replaced it immediately after trying it in the field and having to reload the stupid thing every 16 seconds. 105 all the time in the 400 with zero problems other than what I just mentioned. It came with the garbage rapid load head that you have to put the two cut pieces of string into the holes. Run these now for a few years on multiple trimmers, only time I ever had issues is when on of the guys would take the head apart to 'unweld' line and put the middle section in backwards as in should read L out rather than R. My fear with the rapid load is I'll be constantly replacing string or I've read reviews where the head gets clogged with debris and it makes it lawn hell feeding new string in.Īnyone with experience your input would be greatly appreciated? I have about 3/4 of an acre I trim, some fence and landscape rock. I've been reading about the rapid load heads where you insert pre cut line. I dislike spooling or winding the string and the bump feature doesn't always work well. It came with the bump feeder trimmer head. I just go by the looks after doing it so many times. On the speed feed 400 head you can assemble one part upside down and it will go together but feed with be poor. Pehaps even a little slower around rocks and fences.Īlso when bump feeding line wind the RPMs up to about 3/4 throttle before bumping. The problem I'm having is as soon as I first installed the head and fired up the trimmer it sucked the preinstalled. Run the trimmer a little above half speed unless you really need to poor on the coal and you can actually cut faster and the line lasts longer. After reading lots of good reviews on the speed feed head I decided to buy one.Being a cheapskate I went to ebay and bought a china knockoff of a speed feed 400. The square and mulit edge stuff does not stay staight (it deflects a bunch) when cutting. It takes me less than 2 minutes to change line. I load the Speed-Feed 400 up with about 11 feet of good ROUND. Storing it for a couple of days before use in a 5 gallon bucket of water at room temperature or higher and it will bring the line back closer to the original, more flexible condition and should significantly reduce breakage due to brittleness. in a shed or a warehouse it can loose its moisture and therefore its flexibility, it can become stiff, brittle and break easily. Trimmer line is a hygroscopic material if the line is stored in dry conditions, e.g. If your Echo SRM-225 came with a Speed-Feed 400 trimmer head I got to tell you that is about the best that is out there.
